It's Called Self-Care, Not Spend-Care!

If Instagram and Pinterest are to be believed, self care is about expensive massages and spa days. That could not be farther from the truth, though. Self care is literally what it says it is, spending time to take care of yourself, and that doesn't have to cost a thing! Here's how:

1. Remember the Basics

Make sure you're eating, drinking water, and showering regularly! When life gets hectic, these everyday tasks are easy to push to the bottom of your to-do list, but neglecting them will cause your battery to drain very quickly. It may seem like a no-brainer but maintaining your physical health is absolutely self care.

Easy ways to prioritize physical health:

  • Keep a full water bottle close at hand

  • Schedule meals and log off while you eat

  • Have a daily shower or bath to refresh at the end of each day

  • Schedule regular preventive care visits with your doctor

  • Build joyful movement into each day

2. Embrace Hobbies

Whether you're into making elaborate crafts or you like curling up with a good book, hobbies are an excellent way to take uninterrupted time for yourself without necessarily having to spend any money.

Free/Low-cost hobbies to try:

  • Yoga

  • Coloring

  • Board games

  • Creative writing

  • Knitting/crochet

  • Photography

  • Cooking

  • Playing an instrument/listening to music

3. Stick to the Routine

One of the most difficult things about self care is remembering to do it. It helps to schedule specific "me time" and be sure not to let other tasks push in to those slots. Consider it an unbreakable appointment with yourself.

4. Rest

This one is self-explanatory. We all need rest and sleep is free. Try your best to build a healthy sleep routine and stick to it!
